Announcing Speaker for JASNA VIRTUAL REGION JUNE 8, 2024 VIA ZOOM Katie Tencza, Winner of the 2023 JASNA Essay Contest 2023 Graduate Level
Katherine Tencza is a writer of poetry and novels who loves all things Austen. During her six year of teaching middle and high school English, Much Ado About Nothing and Pride and Prejudice were among her favorite works to discuss with students. Currently, she is tutoring for SAT English and pursuing a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and Literature with the Harvard Extension School. Her essay “The Relationship Road to Self-Awareness” won the 2023 JASNA essay contest at the graduate level. In it, she identified patterns in the suitors of the protagonists of Pride and Prejudice and Emma, and examined the ways in which each protagonist’s chosen partner enhanced her self-awareness. Katherine is also working on a musical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre.
